well ,well i see no-one has put any reading in here so i was just wondering what interesting books people have been reading for their work and if anyone has similar theoretical interests. Currently ive been reading a great deal about the camera obscura, particularly 'Camera as ideology' by Sarah Kofman along with Nicky Hamlyn 'Film Art phenomena' i would recommend both. So does anyone have any suggestions, im looking to extend my oeuvre, if anyone knows of any readings on blndness itd also help
night Gemma

Hi there gemma,
georges batailles has written an essay on blindness....his father was blind and he recalls as one of his earliest memories watching his father peeing...and his reaction to knowing that his father could not see him watching...i think it is in visions of excess...but I shall double check for you..if so I'll make you a copy...

Hey its not exactly critical theory, but H.G.Wells wrote a short story called "The country of the blind" its about a traveller who stumbles upon a community of people cut off from the rest of the world and who are all blind, and the troubles he has convincing them he can see.

well thanks for all your responses i will track these down to read over christmas, despite how much dissertation work i have to do!!!!. If anyone knows any structuralist-materialist film-maker books this would also help, ive looked at Visionary film by P. Adams Sitney and Film Art Phenomena by Nicky Hamlyn, but i need some on film-makers such as Malcolm Le Grice and Peter Gidal. I also (if anyone knows) need some other contemporary video film-makers that follow the ethos of structuralist materialist film, this would help me end my dissertation. well well will speak soon and thanks, let me know if youd like any help with references etc. Gemma
