Minutes from 27/11/06
Will summarized the student reps meeting with tutors from Monday 2 weeks earlier. Issues that were raised as a follow up to our feedback forms:
*Tutor input
*Studio practice to be encouraged
*Emails and student central as a means of communicating alongside notice boards.
*Monday meetings between all cfap students and tutors as a way of recapping and passing on information.
*Tutors to meet on Wednesday afternoons.
* The procedure for any individual student complaints was defined by Karen Norquay as follows: address issues at 1st to student reps/then designated year of study course leaders/then head of course/ finally Karen Norquay.
* More tutor time to be assigned to 3rd years next term with Mel Absolon, Sol Sneldvelt, Charlie Hooker and perhaps Monica Roos.
* Finally a budget for visiting lecturers was discussed which should result with a rep and tutor chosen visiting lecturer presenting in Sallis Benney auditorium.
We discussed the necessity of defining Cfap as a course involving theory and practice and the balance between theory and practice were questioned in relation to 1st and 2nd years, through our own experience of it. There seems to be a clearer focus in the 3rd year and more cohesion between practice and theory.
Degree show conversation:
We talked some more about screening off 206 and blackening the space, to create ‘a shooting range’ or screening room.Talk about sound proofing each screen, wireless headphones. A set schedule for timing of showings.
Audioguides of us commenting on each others work (using Adam’s user friendly tone!)..
How many screens would be necessary?1 to 4? How many of us have an idea of which medium they intend to work with (1/2 the group using video?).
Considering that our budget is £600 how many boards are needed and ordering them early was suggested so we don’t have to wait around like last years 3rd years had to.
These are suggestions and we felt that more input from other group members would be necessary, to generate a discussion on curation issues and talk about the space.
A maquette was envisaged but to be constructed closer to the time and with a more definitive idea of curatorial and work decisions.
As far as fundraising is concerned a standard letter was again mentioned with a weekly effort from each of us to get in touch with potential sponsors.
Also a Sunday market stall with any unwanted but worthy to sell bric a brac , junk etc to generate some funds.
The Xmas Bazaar, to sell art work, as starting point, so if any one has any contributions to make please deposit in the big box which will be brought in soon to studio.(to be confirmed).
Finally hiring out a room, hall, church to have our own Cfap fete , thinking of Febuary after our dissertation deadline…this idea was met with enthusiasm!
Any revisions are welcome as these minutes are meant to generate even more discussion!
